Structure

The Structure Module has the following options:

  1. Dimension/Measurement
  2. Fetch
  3. Gap Intercept
  4. Robel Pole/VOM

1. Dimension/Measurement

The module for dimension/measurement is used for inputting plant species and their associated length/measurements. It has the following input display.

The module has the following settings:

  • Structure measured can be entered in the appropriate box.

  • Observations per sample/cluster can be adjusted to accommodate the protocol being implemented.

  • Global qualifiers can be entered in a comma delimited list if desired.

  • Input lists allow the option to toggle on or off restrict to template list and include all choices on form.

  • The option to use height classes can toggled on or off using the radio button. Use classes can be configured to the desired parameters by end point of each class. Below this option there is a drop down allowing the user to input/display classes either by endpoint, midpoint, or range.

2. Fetch

The Fetch module is for recording measurement of individual characteristics associated with a quadrat or point sample. The most common use is measuring "fetch" for an index of relative basal gap in a plant community.

The Fetch display panel displays the numeric value entered for each measurement. To edit a measurement, click on it to highlight it and then using the data input panel (see Numeric Input), re-enter the correct value or clear the value.

The module has the following settings:

  • Item measured can be adjusted.

  • Measurements per sample can be changed from the default of 1.

  • Aside from transect and sample configuration, required settings include the number of measurements: Enter the number of measurements to be taken at each sample point or quadrat. For fetch, this is typically one.

3. Gap Intercept

The module for gap intercept is used for recording gap length in canopy and basal cover. It has the following input display.

The module has the following settings:

  • Record canopy gap intercept and record basal gap intercept can be toggled on or off using the radio buttons.

4. Robel Pole/VOM

The module for Robel Pole/VOM is used for recording vegetation heights. The module has the following input display.

The module has the following settings:

  • Measurement / Units can be changed in the appropriate box.

  • Observations per sample/cluster has a default of 1 but can be changed to any number.

  • Record by species, group, or category can be toggled on or off using the radio button.

  • There is also options to include species, categories, and an observation limit per species/group/category which can be toggled on or off using the radio buttons.

  • The option to use level classes can also be toggled on or off using the radio buttons. Use classes can be configured to the desired parameters by end point of each class. Below this option there is a drop down allowing the user to input/display classes either by endpoint, midpoint, or range.
